A diverse (BIPOC) firm founded in 2006, KDI comprises nearly 50 professionals working from four offices: Nairobi, Los Angeles, Eastern Coachella Valley, and Stockholm.
Job Description:
KDI is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic construction intern to join our Design and Construction team. The position will be based in KDI’s Nairobi office, and the internship period will be for six (6) months - mid-June to mid-December, with a possibility of extension or employment.
As a construction intern, you will play a key role in the management of various construction sites in the informal settlements KDI is working at. This is a hands-on position that will give you a chance to work closely in a multidisciplinary team, learn about the industry, and develop your skills, from supervising sites to assisting in construction coordination. This internship will provide a well-rounded understanding of an innovative community-led construction approach. Duties and Responsibilities:
+ On-site supervision of construction works in different sites within Nairobi.
+ Working with the Construction supervisor and KDI Construction and + Design Team to complete construction deliverables successfully
Support to planning, budgeting and scheduling activities for the projects.
+ Ensuring safety and quality management protocols are in place and adhered to.
+ Assisting the construction team in identifying potential problems and recommending solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs
+ Helping to maintain accurate records of construction costs and expenditures.
+ Managing the day-to-day operations of a construction project, including scheduling, review of drawings, and making sure deadlines are met.
+ Reviewing estimates for materials needed for construction and making sure they are consistent with the budget requirements.
+ Assist the organization of community engagements such as workshops, focus group discussions, or other events; Other relevant tasks as deemed necessary by KDI Design and Construction Team.
Qualifications:
+ B.A .in Construction Management
+ Experience in site supervision
+ Strong technical and adaptability skills
+ Skilled in Ms Project and CAD software
+ Excellent drawings interpretation skills
+ Strong organizational and time management skillsAbility to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
+ Knowledge of and experience working with different cultures and underserved communities
+ Demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to the construction industry.
