KDI U.S. Board Members:
Anthony Foux
With a background in finance, Anthony has worked as an investment banker and bond trader for leading firms, including Goldman Sachs and First Interstate Bank. He has also led several entrepreneurial ventures, including the development of several inns in Monterey, California. Anthony holds a M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
Kevin Heneghan
Kevin is the Co-founder and Senior Managing Director of OTA Financial Group. He served as CEO of OTR Global, and he is currently its Board Chair. In addition to his role at KDI, he is involved in philanthropy through his family foundation, the Dove Givings Foundation, which promotes development and self-sustaining efforts in Cambodia, Kenya, Zambia, Rwanda, and Uganda.
Claudia Kahn
A longtime advocate of human and women’s rights, Claudia is a founding board member of KDI. She has a professional background in concierge services and established The Help Company, one of the first nanny agencies in the U.S.
Steve Malkenson
Steve has been an economic analyst for the Environmental Protection Agency, a public high school teacher in New York City, a Professor of Business Ethics at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Sacred Heart University, an independent documentary filmmaker for his production company Catalyst Productions, and an arbitrageur. In addition, Steve has a long career as an independent investor and advisor, most recently focusing on the areas of impact investing and social entrepreneurship.
Tendo Nagenda
Tendo is a producer and executive. His prior roles include Vice President of Original Film at Netflix, Executive Vice President of Production at Disney, and Vice President of Production at Good Universe. He founded 10 By Ten Entertainment in 2022, based on his firm belief that feature films and television shows can impact how people see and experience the world. He is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College with a dual degree in Economics and Government.
David Valentine
David is the Board Chair at KDI. David is the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance & Administration of Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to that, he was the Vice President of Financial Services at Otis College of Art and Design and President of the Valentine/Crawford Group, providing consulting services to leaders of color in the charter school environment. He also served as the Executive Director of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Business Services Division. He holds an MBA from Drexel University and a BBA from Temple University.
KDI Kenya Board Members:
Arthur Adeya
Arthur is a co-founder of KDI and serves as Treasurer to the KDI Kenya Board. He is the Technical Director and Director of Projects at CentumRE. Prior to this role, he worked in various architectural firms in the US and Kenya. Arthur is a lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi (BArch, Architecture) and Harvard University Graduate School of Design (MLA, Landscape Architecture).
Robyn T. Emerson
Robyn, a self-directed public policy and advocacy specialist, brings over 25 years of experience in leading nonprofit charity environments, fundraising, social enterprises, urban development, and communications to our Kenyan Board of Directors. She is the co-author of Building in Kenya, the Africa Housing Forum Manager at Habitat for Humanity, and the President of Women in Real Estate - Kenya. Read her profile here.
Rose Muema
Rose is a public policy and urban development expert with a professional background in urban and regional planning. She is currently a partner at Impaque Consultants Ltd., offering consultancy services in planning and urban development. Rose also serves in the Makueni County Municipal Board, which addresses governance and management of urban areas across the county. She has over 25 years of professional experience in urban planning and development, including multiple positions in both national and county governments.
Joe Mulligan
Joe is the executive director of KDI and the current chair of the KDI Kenya board. Before becoming executive director, he was a volunteer with KDI between 2008-2012 and the director of the Kenya office between 2012-2013. Joe is a chartered civil engineer and a former senior engineer at BuroHappold Engineering. He holds a doctorate in Planning and Decision Analysis, along with advanced degrees from Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where he is an affiliated researcher.
Carol Owala
Carol is a leader with a focus on education. As a teacher, she pioneered groundbreaking methods of working with children with special needs; as a coach of coaches, she worked to share transformative adult learning practices; as a community organizer, she organized a mothers’ sewing cooperative in the communities she serves. Carol now leads Kenya Big Picture Learning. Having grown up in Kibera, one of Africa’s largest slums, Carol is dedicated to serving children in Nairobi’s informal settlements, expanding their opportunities through quality education.
Caroline Ray
Caroline is an Advisory Member to the KDI Kenya Board of Directors.
